Borrowing

Decide how long things are lent for, and how reserving and the waiting list work.

Who can do this: coordinators and admins.

This group has two parts, each with its own Save button:

  • Loan rules: how long things can be kept, renewals, and whether you charge for lateness or missing pieces.
  • Reservations: how far ahead people can reserve, when reservations close, and what happens to ones nobody collects.

Steps

Change the loan period

  1. Choose Settings in the sidebar, then Borrowing.
  2. Under Loan rules, change Loan period (days), for example from 7 to 10.
  3. Set Renewals allowed and Each renewal adds (days).
  4. Leave Due dates land on a session on if you only take toys back at sessions. A due date between sessions then moves to the next one.
  5. Switch on Block renewals if someone has reserved the item if you want reserved toys to come back on time.
  6. Press Save.
What you'll see

"Loan rules saved". New loans use the new period. Loans already out keep their due dates. The loan period must be at least 1 day.

Late fees and missing pieces

Both are off to start with. Most libraries find reminders work better than fees.

  1. Under Loan rules, switch on Charge late fees and fill in Per day late and Most you will charge on one item.
  2. Or switch on Charge for missing pieces and fill in the Usual charge. When it is off, a missing piece is still recorded, but nobody is charged.
  3. Press Save.

Reservation rules

  1. Under Reservations, leave Let people reserve online on.
  2. Choose Who can reserve: Current members, Members, and people who have joined but not paid yet, or Anyone with an account.
  3. Set How far ahead (weeks), the Cut-off (days before session) and the Cut-off time (24-hour, like 18:00).
  4. Set Most items in one reservation, Most open reservations and Gap between loans (hours), the time to check and tidy a toy before it goes out again.
  5. Choose what happens If a reservation is not collected: Release it after a short wait (and how many hours in Wait before releasing (hours)), or Keep it until the next session.
  6. Choose whether to Send an evening-before reminder and Show how many are available on the public catalogue.
  7. Press Save.

The waiting list

  1. Under Reservations, switch on Waiting list.
  2. Choose When it comes back: Offer it to the first person, or Tell everyone, first to reserve gets it.
  3. Set how long an offer lasts in Offer lasts (hours).
  4. Press Save.

Reservations must be on to use the waiting list.
