Renew or change a membership

Keep a family's membership running: renew it, or change it when their situation changes.

Who can do this: coordinators and admins. Desk volunteers can renew during a session (see Renew a membership at the desk). Members can renew online themselves.

Renew a membership

  1. Press People in the sidebar. Press the Expiring chip to see who is due, or search for the family.
  2. Open the person and go to the Memberships tab. The Membership now card shows the plan and when it runs to.
  3. Press Renew or change. (If they have never had a membership, the button says Start a membership.)
  4. Under Plan, leave Keep the current plan or choose another.
  5. Under Payment, choose Paid in cash now, Paid by card now (your own card reader) or Add the charge, they pay later.
  6. Press Renew membership.
What you'll see

A message says Membership updated. The new term starts the moment the current one ends, so renewing early never loses any days. The new term appears under Membership history, and the payment or charge shows on the Payments tab.

Change a membership

  1. Open the Memberships tab and press Renew or change.
  2. Scroll down to Change this membership.
  3. Under What to do, choose one:
    • Extend it by some days, then type How many days.
    • Move it to another plan, then choose the New plan.
    • Pause it, or Resume it if it is paused.
    • Approve it, for a membership that is waiting for approval.
    • Cancel it. They lose borrowing rights straight away.
  4. Add a reason under Why (optional) if it will help someone later.
  5. Press Make this change. For a cancellation, press Cancel the membership, then Yes, cancel it.
What you'll see

A message says Membership changed, and the change appears in the person's timeline.

How members renew online

A member goes to Membership in their account and presses Renew. The page says Renew for £10 (with your plan's price), and they press Pay £10 online. This needs your library to have connected Stripe in Settings > Fees and payments. If you have not, they can renew at the desk.

Reminders

Gizzago emails members 30 days, 7 days and on the day their membership ends, once your library's email sending is set up. You can change those days (see Reminders: due soon, overdue and membership ending).

The plans themselves, with their prices and lengths, are set up in Membership plans.
